Online card games: blackjack, baccarat and poker against the house
Forget the smoky table where players try to outwit one another. At a Belgian online casino, every card game puts you up against a single opponent: the house. No fellow players to read, no chips to take off them, no stare to hold.
That one-to-one contest changes everything, and it does not play out the same way from one family to the next. At blackjack, every decision stays in your hands. At baccarat, you make one choice before the deal. At casino poker, you face a pay table rather than a person. Here is how to find your way around.
Why, in online card games, you play against the house
The poker of the films rests on a simple principle: players take each other on, and the house merely takes its cut. That format does not exist in the catalogue. Every title here is played against the house, whether it is represented by software or by a filmed table.
The consequence is immediate: bluffing makes no sense. Nobody can be rattled by a raise, and your opponent never folds. What counts is the rule of the game, what it allows you to do, and what it imposes on the house.
That is also what makes these games easy to follow. The rules are set in advance, the payouts are displayed, and nothing depends on an opponent's mood. What remains is to understand, family by family, where your room for manoeuvre lies.
The imbalance at the heart of online blackjack
It is the only card game in the catalogue where your decisions shape the long-term result. The reason lies in an imbalance few players notice: the dealer has no choice.
At most tables, the dealer draws while the hand is worth 16 or less and stops from 17. Your cards and your stake play no part in that. You, on the other hand, can hit, stand, double down or split a pair, depending on what you see.
That freedom has a flip side, though, and that is where the house edge sits. You always play first. Go over 21 and you lose on the spot, even if the dealer busts a few seconds later. That stake does not come back.
Basic strategy, and where it stops
Since your choices matter, there is an optimal way to play every hand, known as basic strategy. For each total against each dealer upcard, it gives the action that costs least over time.
Applied without deviation, it brings the house edge down to around half a per cent at a table with standard rules. Played on instinct, the same hand can cost several times more. No other game in the catalogue shows such a gap between a player who knows the rules and one who does not.
It has limits worth knowing. It guarantees no win over a session, and it does not turn the house edge into an edge for the player. It also advises against the insurance offered when the dealer shows an ace, a statistically unfavourable bet. If some terms escape you, our article covering the vocabulary of the game goes through them one by one.
The blackjack tables in the catalogue
The section brings together several formats, which differ mainly in the number of hands and the presence of side bets.
BetSoft's Single Deck is played with one pack only. Gaming1's Multihand versions let you hold up to three or seven hands at once, and the same Belgian studio adds its own variants, Twins and Crazy Twins. Darwin, Reevo and Vibra Gaming round out the offer with classic-format tables, while Evolution's Lightning version layers a multiplier system on top.
Pragmatic Play's X and Dutch X series are of a different kind: they are filmed tables, accompanied by a host. They belong to our hosted blackjack tables, where the pace is the table's rather than yours. Whatever the format, the precise rules, including the payout on a natural, are set out in each game's information panel.
At online baccarat, it is all settled before the deal
Baccarat is its exact opposite. You choose to back the player's hand, the banker's, or a tie. After that you decide nothing more: drawing a third card follows a fixed rule, applied automatically.
What counts, then, is the opening choice, and the figures settle it clearly. With an eight-pack shoe, the banker bet leaves around 1.06% to the house, the player bet 1.24%. The tie, paid at 8 to 1, climbs above 14%. The banker wins slightly more often, which explains the 5% commission taken on its wins.
Darwin, Reevo, Vibra Gaming and Evolution each offer their own version, one of them with a bet on pairs. Two relatives join them. Dragon Tiger deals a single card to each side, and the higher one wins. Bac Bo borrows the same logic, with dice in place of cards.
Online poker in the catalogue is not the film version
The word covers games here where you never come across another player. The combination of cards still counts, but it is measured against the house's hand or against a fixed pay table.
Amusnet's Joker Poker belongs to the video poker family. You receive five cards, choose which to keep, replace the rest, and your final hand is paid according to a table shown from the start. The joker stands in for any card, which makes combinations easier and accounts for the more modest payouts on small hands.
Vibra Gaming's Poker Texas Hold'em and Freeway Poker take over the combinations and vocabulary, in a version played against the house. In every case, what helps is not the ability to bluff but knowing what each hand is worth.
Two games, two opposite logics
Setting casino games side by side shows what makes blackjack unique. At a roulette table, no bet is better than another over time: your choice changes how you win, never what you get back on average.
Here it is the reverse. Two players at the same card table, with the same cards, do not reach the same long-term result depending on whether they follow basic strategy. The banker-and-player game sits in between: a single choice, but one that counts.
That distinction helps you pick a table according to what you want from a session. Those who enjoy thinking through every hand will head for twenty-one. Those who prefer a simple rhythm, with no decisions to make, will be at home at the table next door.
A gaming table under a Belgian licence
All these tables run under Dragon Casino's B+3817 licence, granted by Belgium's gaming regulator. No title enters the section without being checked by an outside laboratory, and the site stays closed to anyone under 21. From your profile, you can set stake and time limits before the first deal.
Access to real-money tables starts with your sign-up. The rest of our online casino games can be explored from the home page.
Frequently asked questions
No. Every version in the catalogue is played against the house, as video poker or against the dealer's hand. There is no room where players face each other.
No. The dealer follows a fixed rule shown on the table, drawing up to a set total and stopping above it. That makes the dealer's play predictable and lets the player decide with full knowledge.
It is not compulsory, but it is what cuts the house edge the most. Without it, decisions made on instinct cost noticeably more over time.
Because the banker's hand wins slightly more often than the player's, owing to the third-card drawing rule. The 5% commission restores the balance in the house's favour.
A very pared-down relative of baccarat, in which each side receives a single card. There is no third card and no drawing rule, and a round is settled in seconds.
No. On most software versions, the virtual shoe is reshuffled after every hand. There are therefore no cards already played to remember from one hand to the next.
